That's because she has changed, and learnt to love herself. At the end of the movie, her mom still doesn't know, but because Kaira has learnt to love herself, she puts a note on the fridge with a list of her favourite dishes. All through the movie, Kaira feels angry that her mother doesn't even know what her favourite food is. The moving brings the point home in clever ways. But the answer lies in changing yourself. It's always other people, and we firmly believe that only if others would change, we'd be happier. mom is too busy, dad is too boring, boyfriend is too insensitive, brother is too cocky, friends are too judgemental, and whatnot. Isn't this the woe that so many of us have? So many of our problems occur because the people in our lives are the way they are. Because, human connections are sometimes deeper than romance. At the end of the movie, Kaira brings her dream project to life and there they are - all her ex-boyfriends in support of her, and cheering her on. But, just because love doesn't work out between two people, it doesn't mean that nothing can. She has her moments, acts irrationally, and doesn't allow the relationship to flourish. Kaira fights with each of her boyfriends. Love can die, but friendship doesn't have to If we can show this kind of diligence for a chair, then why on earth wouldn't we show it when it comes to choosing a life partner? You can't disagree. Jahangir Khan, Shah Rukh's character in the film, offers the wonderful analogy that we shop around, and try so many chairs before we find that one which is a perfect fit for us. There is absolutely zero shaming of this young girl.

During a family reunion, her uncle asks her if she is "Lebanese." He is corrected, and Kaira answers with the nonchalance that such a question actually deserves.
